General

What medical conditions do you address?

Our most common conditions are diabetes and high cholesterol, but we can discuss ANY medical condition or health concern with a nutrition component.

One exception: We typically don't consult clients with eating disorders. We've found that these clients benefit the most from counseling with a different focus. If you have any questions or would like our recommendation, please don't hesitate to email us.

I know it's a "single serving" appointment, but if I feel like I need a follow-up visit, is that possible?

Absolutely! A 30-minute follow-up visit costs $50. If you're looking for more on-going support, contact us and we'll tailor a follow-up program to your needs.

Voice to Voice

How long does the phone call last?

45 minutes.

Is this covered by my insurance?

Unfortunately, over-the-phone consultations are not covered by traditional insurance plans.

I'd love have my metabolism tested, but I live in Kansas...a bit far from your office in Southern California. Is there any way I can get measured out here?

Yes! Just email us. We'll do a little research and figure out where the nearest metabolic testing facility is located.

Face to Face

How long does the visit last?

Just over one hour.

Is this covered by my insurance?

It may be, depending on your plan and medical condition. Sweet Science Nutrition is unable to bill your insurance directly, but you will receive a claim form to submit on your own.

Sweet Science Nutrition is a Medicare provider; we welcome all part B beneficiaries with a diagnosis of diabetes or kidney disease to meet with our dietitians (your visit cost will only be your Medicare co-pay).

Sweet Science Nutrition has contracted with Presbyterian Health Physicians medical group to provide nutrition services to members referred by participating physicians (your visit cost will only be your co-pay).

We are also an out-of-network provider with Motion Picture Industry and Blue Shield/Blue Cross. Generally, these insurance companies reimburse clients for nutrition therapy relating to a specific medical condition (i.e. diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure), but not for weight loss alone.

If you have a flexplan (also called a "cafeteria plan"), the entire cost of any of our services is reimbursable as a medical expense, if these services are not expressly covered by your insurance.
